SWI Symposium Committee

Letter from our Chair

Dear Fellow SWIPIs,
We are excited to host the Small World Initiative’s 5th Annual Symposium, June 21 – 22, 2018, in Madison Wisconsin.

The Symposium Committee in the process of putting together a program offering SWI students and instructors opportunities to create new relationships, share innovative practices, and explore opportunities for future collaboration. The Symposium will be held at UW-Madison’s Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and will include a student poster competition, tapas talks and a keynote address. In addition, the 2018 Symposium will offer students and instructors opportunities to engage with Madison’s vibrant biotech community represented by local, regional and national life sciences firms intrigued by SWI and excited to discuss our initiative’s research and discovery as well as job opportunities for students upon graduation. Finally, we are pleased to partner with UW-Athletics and explore AMR‘s impact on collegiate athletes and athletics.

We’ve been able to keep costs of attending the Symposium affordable to encourage participation. Total costs per attendee are only $86. This includes two nights of lodging at UW-Madison housing and all meals. Limited travel grants may be available to support students who otherwise would not be able to attend. If you’re interested in applying for a travel grant, please provide your contact information here. Next month, the Symposium Committee will circulate on online registration form. In the meantime, please put this on your calendars, share the date with your students, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.

Best regards,
